Dean DeWitt Trivette

Mr. Dean DeWitt Trivette, 94, of Winston-Salem, passed away Friday, July 26, 2019 at Kate B. Reynolds Hospice Home in Winston-Salem.  Mr. Trivette was born in Winston-Salem, NC on May 15, 1925 to Frederick Bryant and Daisy Foster Trivette, Sr.  A kind and generous man, Dean spent his life serving others and his Lord and Savior.   An avid reader of the Bible, his children admired and respected him as a wonderful man who taught them how to live a Christian life.  Mr. Trivette opened his heart and his home to everyone, welcoming them to his backyard pool and cooking the best barbeque ever. He never hesitated to help anyone in need and often did so anonymously.  His sense of humor was contagious and no one could match his quick wit.  He proudly and sacrificially served his country as a Merchant Marine during WWII.  Mr. Trivette was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Frederick Bryant Trivette, Jr.  He is survived by his wife of 72 years, Martha Barefoot Trivette; two sons, Roger Dean Trivette (Susie) and Stephen Wayne Trivette; and one daughter, Nancy Trivette Vlcek; 4 grandchildren, Erin Norman (Kyle), Ashley King (Eric), Sarah Goudy and Foster Goudy; 13 great-grandchildren, Carter, Bradley, Chloe, Cadence, Emma, Abby, Pearce, Iverson, Landon, Kendall, Barrett, Amelia and Everette; and his sister Ethel Ledbetter (Mike). A graveside service will be held at 11 AM on Wednesday, July 31, 2019 at Forsyth Memorial Park in Winston-Salem, with Reverend Steve Pittman and  Reverend Michael Ledbetter officiating. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the North Carolina Baptist Children’s Home, re: Davis House, 204 Idol Drive, Thomasville, NC 27361.

We were so sorry to learn of the death of Dean but rejoice in the knowledge that he is with the Good Lord and suffering no more. Dean was such a kind, generous and compassionate man and Bob and I feel blessed to have been his and Martha’s back door neighbor for 40 plus years. There are so many wonderful memories that we have of visiting in their home, our kids swimming in their pool every summer, sharing the bounty of the garden, especially the half runner green beans as share croppers, etc. The legacy that Dean leaves behind is that he not only talked the talk but walked the walk of a true Christian. He will certainly be missed and prayers go out to all the family during this time.

A wonderful warrior for our Lord and Savior has earned his reward and rest! Many are the wonderful memories of Dean and Martha and the wondrous gifts given to my family. Dean’s generosity during my formative years, impact me still, and I am so thankful to have known him (Martha and family). Many thoughts, prayers and Christian love sent to Martha, Roger, Nancy, Stephen and the extended family. God’s Grace and sustaining love will get you through, till we all see Dean again.

Dean- We believe you are enjoying Heaven right now – even as you enjoyed life. You
have been a friend and a helper and we both treasured that contact. Many times you
have helped me and given guidance and wisdom. I (Ben) will one day, thank you again, in person, in heaven.

Words can hardly express the love 💕 and support Dean and Martha gave us while at Salem Baptist Church ⛪️ And after!
The memories are MANY and are so good to reflect on and find comfort!
Our sons always talk of the wonderful vacations given us at “The Trivette House!”
Thank you Dean and Martha, you are etched in our hearts to stay, and we will depend on that “Marvelous Grace of our loving Lord” Dr. Stevens taught us and we sang about together to take us through this particular time and carry us home to be with our Savior and those we love ❤️ who are now with HIM!
“Some Golden Daybreak, Jesus will come” and so “we shall forever be with our LORD!”

I’m so sorry for your loss. Dean was loved and appreciated by everyone who knew him. Thankful for the good memories down through the years that we had the privilege of knowing your family. Comforting to know the promises in Gods word, absent from the body, present with the Lord. Praying.

  • He was one of my favorite people and I loved him dearly! Such a loving man who had a heart of gold, a sense of humor like no one else, and a very quick wit. He was willing to do whatever needed to be done in helping others. A great Christian man and his passing leaves a void in all our lives.

We know he no longer suffers and is finally with his Lord and Savior, but the emptiness is still there. Our prayer is God will fill that void with his love and wrap his arms around you during this time.
