Amanda Sue Mohler

d. March 14, 2019

Amanda Sue Mohler, 26, of Winston-Salem passed away on Thursday March 14, 2019 surrounded by her loving family. As a child, Amanda was very active and energetic. She enjoyed playing soccer, roller skating, and hiking. Amanda was kind and generous, and had a joyful spirit. She was very social and loved hanging out with her friends. Additionally, Amanda was a talented artist and her beautiful acrylic paintings are special legacies. On March 12, 2004, Amanda suffered a Traumatic Brain Injury (TBI), when she fell off the roof of the house. After months in the hospital and rehabilitation, she came home. She could not speak, swallow food or purposefully move from that time on, and was totally dependent on others for her care. Despite being unable to verbally communicate, she had a way of smiling and laughing that captured hearts. Amanda had a way of leaving a lasting impression on anyone she met. In late 2006, Amanda moved to Horizons Residential Care Center, in Rural Hall, where she remained until just recently, under their attentive care. While there, Amanda charmed the staff with her gorgeous brown eyes. Early this month, Amanda's colon stopped functioning properly. After 15 years of living with a serious TBI, her body was giving out. She spent her last 8 days being tended to at Trellis Supportive Care, with family and friends by her side. Amanda is survived by her mother, Linda Bankston; father, Greg Mohler; stepmother, Cynthia Braun; and brother, Zach Mohler; all of Winston-Salem, NC; grandparents, Arnold and Josie Mohler, of Delphos, OH; as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins of North Carolina, Louisiana, and Ohio. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Horizons Residential Care Center, 100 Horizons Lane, Rural Hall, NC 27045. There will be a private family gathering to celebrate and honor Amanda's life.
