Ms. Billie Raxter Smith, 85, of Clemmons, NC passed away Wednesday March 16, 2022 at her home surrounded by her loving daughters. She was born January 7, 1937 in Winston-Salem to Arthur and Flora Wood Raxter. Billie was a graduate of Robert B Glenn High School where she played basketball. She participated in synchronized swimming/water ballet at Reynolds Park pool. Billie had a heart that overflowed with love for family, friends, and strangers. Billie absolutely loved being a mother, and a Mamaw. Crystal and Erin were the apple of her eye. She enjoyed watching her nascar racing, watching the ID channel, loved old classic country music, with her favorite being Conway Twitty. She absolutely loved Scotty McCreary whom she met in person and got his autograph. Billie truly loved her "critters". She sat outside watching and feeding the squirrels , chipmunks ,and birds, while enjoying a cup of black coffee and smoking a cigarette. She loved going to Cherokee when she was able to play her "lucky shamrocks". Billie previously worked for the Winston Salem bus station, Robert E Lee Hotel, Horn of Plenty grocery store, various convenience stores, Hooker furniture factory of Kernersville, Douglas Battery where she retired after 25 years of service. She felt the need to return to the workforce after retirement and worked at Lowes Food in the Deli department where she retired 3 times, the final being in November of 2014, as sadly dementia had become more prominent. The family would like to express their sincere appreciation to Trellis Supportive Care, formally Hospice of Davie, especially her loving and caring nurse Erin Carr. The entire staff has been overwhelmingly caring, and always available. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her daughter Teresa (Terry) Smith; sister Peggy Raisig; brothers Bobby and Ronnie Raxter; and a step grandson Shaun Segrave. Left to cherish her memory are daughters Debbie Segrave of the home, Barbara Smith of Clemmons; granddaughters Crystal Segrave (Rob Rubino) of Boynton Beach Fl. Erin Smith of Asheville NC; sister n law Sue Raxter of King NC; great grandchildren Jenn, Emma, and Connor Rubino of Boynton Beach Fl; and lifelong best friend and ex sister in law Geneva Mathis of Winston Salem; and various other nieces; nephews; and cousins. A memorial service will take place at River Oaks Community Church, 1855 Lewisville Clemmons Rd., Clemmons, NC at 4:00 pm Monday March 21, 2022, officiated by Pastor Sonny Flowers and Jerry Mathis. The family will receive friends immediately following the service. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Trellis Supportive Care, 377 Hospital Street #103, Mocksville, NC, 27028, or River Oaks Community Church, 1855 Lewisville Clemmons Road, Clemmons, NC 27012.
