Carolyn Sue Varner Ring, 87, of Pfafftown, passed away Thursday September 27, 2018. She was born July 16, 1931 in Badin, North Carolina to Clay Glenn and Helen Rayhill Varner. An inspiration to everyone who knew her, Mrs. Ring was a dedicated wife, mother and grandmother. Not only did she love her family, she also loved people, animals and nature. She was married in November, 1956. She was a dedicated church member, working with children for many years. Mrs. Ring was the first single female police officer for the Winston-Salem Police Department. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Paul C. Ring; one brother, Keith Varner; and one sister, Jane Varner. She is survived by 2 daughters, Paula Shaw (Jeff) and Mary Beth Deal (Terry); one grandson, Troy Shaw; one granddaughter, Laura Zimmerman (Bryan); one great granddaughter, Saylor Coryn Zimmerman; and one step grandson Gatlin Zimmerman. A funeral service will be held 2:00 PM Sunday, September 30, 2018 at Bethany Baptist Church, 600 Old Hollow Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27105 with Dr. Brad Stamey and Rev. Brian Alverson officiating. A visitation will be held 1 hour prior to the service. Entombment will be held 11:00 AM Monday, October 1, 2018 at Forsyth Memorial Park.
