Darryl Wayne Smith aka RedDog, 56, of Winston Salem, NC died unexpectedly on February 10, 2022. Darryl was born August 25,1965 in Los Angeles, California to Coy M Smith and Carolyn E Smith née Maness. Born premature, he weighed 2lbs 12 ounces and had a hole in his heart. Darryl was a fighter from the start. A tough little guy. He didn’t let being small stop him from doing anything he set out to do. The family moved to San Diego CA in 1969. Darryl was an athletic child, who played little league baseball, football, rode and modified bikes, as well as doing stunts on them. He liked skateboarding, swimming, and fishing. A true sports fan for his entire life. Darryl, known to family and friends as Red or RedDog. Red because of his bright red hair and Dog because of his love for pit bulls and all dogs really. His dog Bigboy was his best friend. Red loved to keep people laughing by doing skits of characters he had created. He had a great sense of humor and was very comical. Anyone who met Red wouldn’t likely forget him. He loved tattoos and had 88 of them from head to toe. He was one of a kind, quite a character, unique, loyal, proud, big hearted, funny and fiercely protective of his family and - whom he loved very much. Some career highlights are carpentry, climbing cell phone towers and landscaping. Interests and hobbies include NASCAR, gambling, beautiful women, building model cars, and watching football. He was an avid fan of the (formerly) San Diego Chargers. Darryl was preceded in death by his parents; brother Craig Smith; and niece Miranda Finch. Surviving are his brother Steve Brooks (Jackie); sister Lori Smith; dog Bigboy; nieces Jennifer, Melissa, Courtney, Hailey and Caroline; nephews Jeffrey, Jake, and Jared; great nieces Cassandra, Anessa and McKenzie; and great nephews Alex, Kingston, Zaiden, Phoenix, Damian, and Gabriel. Darryl was a loving son, brother, uncle and friend. He will be greatly missed. Gone but never forgotten. His memory will live on in our hearts forever.
