David Joseph Roberts

David Joseph Roberts, 82, of Advance, passed away Thursday, November 15, 2018. He was born on January 10, 1936, in New Bedford, MA to Llewellyn and Evelyn Kennedy Roberts. He graduated from New Bedford High School in 1955 and joined the Air Force serving from 1955-1958. He attended Boston University for several years and then relocated to Washington D.C. to join the Metropolitan Police Department where he served for nearly 25 years. After retirement, he drove a school bus for the Montgomery County (MD) Public School system for 10 years. Dave loved his family and always made time for friends and neighbors. He had a passion for his work as a police detective and was the recipient of numerous awards. He never met a stranger and commanded a room with stories from his youth and police exploits. He loved to work in his yard and was an avid sports enthusiast. He is preceded in death by his parents, and brothers Llewellyn, Paul and John Bruce Roberts. Dave is survived by his wife of 46 years, Mary Helen, son Chris Roberts of Acushnet, MA, daughter Kelly Wesney and husband Denny of High Point, daughter Erin Pisciotta and husband Jim of Advance, four grandchildren, Evie, Jack, Will, and Henry. A memorial mass will be held on Monday, November 19, 2018 at Holy Family Catholic Church in Clemmons, NC at 11:00 am. with Father Peter Nouck officiating. Visitation will be held at the church 1 hour prior to the service, beginning at 10:00 am.
