Donald John Schmidlin, 78, of Maiden, North Carolina passed away early Sunday morning January 28, 2018 surrounded by family at Trinity Elms Health and Rehab in Clemmons, NC. Don was born February 21, 1939 in Toledo, Ohio to Bernard Albert and Alice McClarin Schmidlin. Don served as a mechanic in the Ohio National Guard and was a 32nd degree Master Mason with the West Bend Lodge #434 in Lewisville, NC. He retired from a career in Finance in 2003. Don enjoyed boating at Lake Norman and fishing on the Outer Banks with his family and friends. He also took great pride in his garden and loved sharing canned vegetables with neighbors and family. He was preceded in death by his parents, and siblings Raymond Schmidlin, Bernard Schmidlin, and Janice Iammarino Hambaugh. Don is survived by his wife, Eva Schmidlin, of the home and leaves behind a legacy of children and grandchildren: Sons Dale (Patsy) of Thomasville, NC, Jim (Kim) of Dunn, NC, John of Lenoir, NC and Steven (Janell) of Hampstead, NC; Grandsons Ben and Jay; Granddaughters Elizabeth, Rachel, Morgan, Reagan, Ashlyn, Mary Kate, Kaitlyn, and Quinn; and Great-Grandson, Jameson. The family will hold a private memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts may be made to the Kate B.
