Lawrence “Larry” Williams

January 8, 1944 — April 3, 2019

Lawrence "Larry" Williams, 75, of Winston-Salem passed away peacefully in North Carolina on Wednesday, April 3, 2019 surrounded with many prayers of loved ones. His Son Jon and Sister June were beside him during his final hours at Novant Health Forsyth Medical Center in Winston-Salem NC. All prayers with entire family were on going. Also, sending from Michigan love his way especially from Daughter Stacey and Son-in-Law Todd. Larry was born born in Borough Manhattan, New York January 8, 1944 to John Thomas Lawrence and Edith Copinus Williams. He worked for Xerox Company and was awarded honors after inventing improvements for the Xerox copy machine in the 1970's. He also was a Limousine, Taxi driver/transporter in NYC for over 30 years which brought the light of his original one of a kind funny humor personality. He certainly loved jokes, loved to laugh and sharing any jokes he had to offer. He loved listening to others laugh. His face lit up when he saw others smile. Definitely a survivor Larry became an original NYC taxi driver who offered an abundance of history of NYC of locations & landmarks. Any question asked he would know or would find out immediately. New York was his city. Larry would know any road by memory and if not had a map right beside him. His memory was brilliant. His eyesight was spot on. A truly smart man. He was a stand up man and always stood up for what he believed in. Larry was never a man to be reckoned with. He was a protector when needed and or asked. He was a brilliant man. His knowledge was endless and political and history was one of his specialties. He always shared his life experiences to help and support others when asked and loved sharing his life. Larry was a true survivor, and proudly served his country with Honors as a Vietnam Veteran. Larry was known for speaking the truth. He enjoyed comedy, reading books and listening to the radio news or music. A man with a sense of humor and a true gentleman. Larry was preceded in death by his parents; and a Sister Barbara Williams. He is Survived by son Jon David Williams; Daughter, Stacey Ann Williams Gratson (Todd); Granddaughter, Sierra June Williams; and sister June Karen Williams.
