Lois Geiger Holmes Lois Geiger Holmes of Winston-Salem died on November 11, 2020 at the home of her son Robert. She was born in Mt. Vernon, Ohio on December 30, 1931 to John and Gladys Geiger. Lois graduated from Mt. Vernon High School in 1949 and attended Baldwin-Wallace College from 1949 to 1951, then transferred to Western Reserve University where she earned a bachelor’s degree in sociology. She worked for the Cuyahoga Child Welfare Department for one year. She married Albert William Holmes in l954 when he was a medical student at Western Reserve. After two years in the US Army, the family moved to Hinsdale IL where they made their home for the next 14 years. By this time they had four children, two boys and two girls. She said her greatest joy in life was raising her children. In 1975 they moved to Lubbock, Texas where Dr. Bill Holmes became Chair of Medicine at the newly formed Texas Tech University School of Medicine. Lois and her husband left Texas in 1990 for Fresno, CA where they lived together until Bill died in 2005. Lois stayed until January 2015 when she went to live at Bermuda Village in Advance, NC. Lois’ sister Jane Knox was a neighbor at Bermuda Village. Lois had a passion for music and sang and played piano and flute. She participated in many vocal groups and enjoyed group performances. Lois loved to travel and spend time in the outdoors. She maintained friendships throughout her life, and participated in various volunteer activities. She will be dearly missed by family and friends. Lois was preceded in death by her husband; and daughter Nancy, who died in 1979. Lois is survived by two sons, William of Bellevue, WA; Robert of Winston-Salem; and daughter, Elizabeth of Chicago, IL; and sister Jane Knox.
