Mrs. Marjorie Mast Nifong, 90, of Lexington, NC, passed away peacefully on Sunday December 31, 2023.
She was born in Watauga County on April 20, 1933, to James and Myrtie Mast. Marjorie graduated from Cove Creek School in Watauga County NC and attended Appalachian State University from 1951-1955, graduating with a BA in education. It was at Appalachian State where she met and wed the love of her life, Colon Nifong.
Marjorie was a teacher in the Winston-Salem/Forsyth County Schools at Northwest Junior High for thirty years. She and Colon raised two wonderful children.
Marjorie and Colon retired to Double N Farm in Lexington NC and she spent her life helping to create and run a cattle farm with Colon. She and Colon loved farm life and made a home for all the children, grandchildren, and great grand-children to visit.
She is survived by her daughter, Deborah N. Patterson (Fred) and son Jeffrey D. Nifong (Joanna); four grandchildren, Christina Woods (Brian), Rebecca Cecil (Ryan), Amber Nifong, and Joshua Nifong. Marjorie has three great-grandchildren, Emma Woods, William Cecil and Anna Cecil. Marjorie is also survived by her sister-in-law Nell Schopp and brother-in-law Larry Nifong (Betty) and sister-in-law Maxine Mast.
A celebration of life will be conducted at 2 p.m. Saturday, January 6, at Midway Church, 9795 Old U.S. Highway 52, Lexington NC. The family will receive friends before the service at 1 p.m. The family would like to thank all her caregivers for their service over the past months. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered for Hospice of Davidson County or Midway Church.
