Michael Warren Phillips, 67, of Winston-Salem went home to be with the Lord on October 20, 2018, after a brief illness and hospitalization. He was born in Winston-Salem, NC on May 30, 1951 to Robert and Anne Hayes Phillips. Michael received his formal education in the City's public schools. After high school Mike moved to Columbia, MD where he began his career in retail, specifically men's fashions. Upon returning to Winston-Salem, Mike graduated from Dudley's Beauty College and for several years was employed as a Cosmetologist in Charlotte and Winston-Salem, NC. He ended his working career as a Salesman at Modern Toyota. Mike grew up in the church and as an adult attended Hanes CME Church and St. John CME Church. In his later years he joined Friendship Missionary Baptist Church where he served as a Deacon. Mike was preceded in death by his grandparents Robert (Lucinda) Williams and Jim (Rosa) Hayes, as well as several uncles and aunts. Left to cherish his memory is his parents Robert (Tonnie) Phillips and Anne H. Phillips, son Mario (Sarah) Coleman, two grandchildren, Logan and Gavin; sisters Cheryl P. Taylor and Renee Phillips; brother Andre (Vickie) Phillips, one nephew Justin (Tanya) Taylor, one niece Ana Rice; aunts Barbara J. Blair and Dorothea Baity; several cousins, and a host of family members and friends. A Memorial Service to celebrate Mike's life will take place on Saturday, November 17th at 1 p.m. at Friendship Missionary Baptist Church 1317 North Cherry Street Winston-Salem, NC. Family will receive friends one hour prior to the Service. The family requests that in lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Michael may be made to Friendship Missionary Baptist Church 1317 North Cherry Street Winston-Salem, NC 27105 or to Addiction Recovery Care Association ("ARCA") in care of Mr. Thom Elmore, Executive Director 1931 Union Cross Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27107.
