Richard Robert Lorenz, 72, of Fayetteville, NC peacefully moved to Heaven Monday morning, February 26, 2024 at the Fayetteville VA Medical Center. He was born in Fort Collins, CO and grew up in Cheyenne, WY. Master Sergeant Lorenz was a retired veteran and proudly served in the United States Army for over 30 years. He was awarded several medals during his service but was most proud of the Purple Heart he received after serving in the Gulf War.
Richard held a Master of Science in Criminal Justice and Psychology. He worked as a Military Family Life Consultant at Fort Bragg and Counseling Psychologist for the Department of Defense. Prior to his military service, he worked with Step One in Winston-Salem, NC. He overcame many obstacles in his life which made him the strong and caring man that he was.
He was preceded in death by his parents Bob and Georgena Lorenz; and brother Tom. He is survived by his sisters Vicki Carpenter (Tim) and Louise Lorenz; Nieces and nephews Courtney Mabe (Ryan), Greysen, Ryder (arriving March 2024); Morgan Ashburn, (Blake), Walker. Debby Ridge (Tom), Sara Gustafson and her children Annie & Kalani; Sierra Ridge. There was nothing in this world that he loved more than his family.
A celebration of life will be conducted in the Sechrist Scout Building at Calvary Baptist Church, 134 S. Peacehaven Rd, Winston-Salem, 11:00 AM Saturday March 9, 2024 with Pastor Truett Williams officiating. Visitation following. The family would like to thank Richard's Olive Garden "family" in Fayetteville, his home away from home for their friendship over the years. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be considered for the American Cancer Society or the Veterans Association.
