Mr. Robert James Van Buren, 80, of Winston-Salem, passed away Tuesday, January 19, 2016. He was born July 24, 1935 in Clarence, New York to James Geil and Margaret Frank Van Buren. Bob received his bachelor's degree from Milligan College in TN, and a master's degree from Florida Atlantic University in Boca Raton, FL. He taught science and biology for many years in the WSFC school system. Bob had an avocation as an athletic official. He officiated basketball, football, volleyball, softball, and baseball. He found his niche when cable TV became available and was quite successful with sales. Bob loved to travel. He spent two weeks on a Greek Island counting Turtle (Loggerhead) eggs and hatchlings with Earth Watch Foundation. Bob also joined an Ecology group that studied the Ambergris Key area of Belize. He has been in every state in the US except Hawaii. Bob has driven from Key West to the furthermost point in the USA. He was preceded in death by his parents, a brother, Richard; and a granddaughter, Carol Ann Stamper. He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Alice; four daughters, Terry Moorefield (Jerry), Toni Everhart (Jim), Tracy Robinson (Mark), and Tamy "Sam" Fitzpatrick (Mike); 9 grandchildren; and 1 great grandchild. A memorial service will be held 3:00 PM Sunday, January 31, 2016 at Ardmore Christian Church. In lieu of flowers memorials can be made to Ardmore Christian Church, 1515 S. Hawthorne Road, Winston-Salem, NC 27103.
