It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Steven W Cooper Sr who departed this world on August 24, 2024 at the age of 75. An honorably discharged Vietnam Veteran and former Winston-Salem Police Officer, Steve exemplified the spirit of service, courage, and resilience throughout his life.
Born in 1949, Steve grew up with a passion for cars and racing that never left him. He believed that life truly began at 170 mph, and his love for speed was unmatched. Whether he was working under the hood or pushing his car to its limits, he found joy and freedom in the roar of an engine. To Steve, a fast drive wasn't just a thrill—it was a way of life.
Beyond his love for cars, Steve was a man of hard work and determination. He approached every challenge with the same tenacity that saw him through his years of pain and hardships. A true fighter and a real warrior, he faced life's ups and downs with unwavering strength and an indomitable spirit.
Steve is survived by his three sons; his sister Carol; and very good friend Sammy who will cherish the memories of his disregard towards posted speed limits, his stories and the way he lit up when talking about past automotive projects.
As we say goodbye, we take comfort in knowing that he is now on the ultimate ride, where the speed limits are nonexistent and the roads stretch on forever. Rest in peace, Steve. Your spirit will forever fuel our hearts.
Military honor services will be held at The VA National Cemetery in Salisbury. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made in Steve's honor to Ancora Compassionate Care in Reidsville, NC or your local Veterans organization to assist families of deceased veterans in need of funeral funds.
