William Spencer Medley, age 81, of King died January 16, 2023. Spencer, as he was known by friends and family, was born to Claude and Frankie Medley in West Jefferson, North Carolina on August 17, 1941. He is predeceased by both parents as well as his stepfather, Russell Stikes, and his brothers Williard and Jerry Stikes. He is survived by a sister, Karen Fender and brother in law Robert Fender.
Spencer is also survived by all four of his children. Leslie McElyea and her husband Robet Tate, Rhonda Dowling and her husband Daniel Dowling, Jason Medley and his wife Ally Medley, and Rickey Medley. He has eight living grandchildren; Taylor Farabee, Kelley McElyea, Reagan McElyea and her husband Matthew Burden, Jackson Medley, Cheyenne Stratton, Jameson Stratton, Jillianne Stratton, and Copeland Medley. Spencer is also survived by his life-long friend, Billie Jean McPeak.
During his life Spencer has been a mechanic, electrician, maintenance worker, carpenter, builder, and much more. To family and friends he was a jack of all trades with the ability to fix anything. He was a loving father and devoted grandfather. Beloved and befriended by all that knew him. Spencer had a quick wit and an amazing sense of humor. He will be forever missed. His life was a blessing and his memory will be a treasure.
Spencer’s service will be held privately at a family cemetery in Wilkesboro, North Carolina. If you would like to send flowers, contact Twin City Funeral Home. The family would like to send their gratitude to the ICU workers, the palliative team, and hospice team at Novant Forsyth Hospital.
